Six questions you should ask before starting a research project
One of the great things about research is that there are endless questions to answer. However, this is also one of the hardest hurdles to deal with as only some of these questions are economically “worth” answering. I have found these preliminary questions help to define a project and set the project up to be the most helpful in answering a valuable question.
What is your goal?
How does your technology help the end user?
What crop is your target?
Is your product trying to displace a competitor? If so, should we compare to them? Do we know how much their technology costs?
Are our rates field relevant? Should they be?
What metrics are key to your discussions? Yield, SPAD, NDVI, germination rate, plant weight, growth rate, videos of growth, etc.
Using these questions can help to mold a research project and answer questions that have the best return on investment.
